Explanation (?):

The Windows Media Services (WMServer.exe) service provides streaming media across the Internet for Media Player 10 servers. This allows users to listen and/or watch non-static media files, such as live recordings, through a native Windows based system. This is done through the Windows Media Format, which provides great compression and good file quality. If this computer is running a media server for Windows Media then this service should be left on automatic. If you are not then this service should be uninstalled through add/remove components in the add/remove menu.
